Digital Resources

Listen Up Vermont allows you to check out ebooks and digital audiobooks to your phone, tablet, or other device. You can use Overdrive on your computer, or you can download Overdrive’s Libby app (available for both Apple and Android) to your phone or tablet.

To sign in on the Overdrive website:

1. Click the “Sign In” button
2. Choose Baxter Memorial Library from the drop-down list
3. Enter your full library card number (email or call the library if you don’t know it)
4. Enter your password (this is the same password you use to access our catalog). If you’re unsure, try the default password “userpass.” Then, be sure to log into our catalog where you’ll be prompted to change it to your own password. Now when you log into Overdrive, you’ll enter your own password.

To sign in on the Libby app:

1. Tell Libby you have a library card
2. Search for Baxter using zip code 05065
3. Enter your full library card number
4. Enter your password (this is the same password you use to access our catalog). If you’re unsure, try the default password “userpass.” Then, be sure to log into our catalog where you’ll be prompted to change it to your own password. Now when you log into Libby, you’ll enter your own password.

Baxter Memorial Library is pleased to offer The Palace Project, another option for accessing e-books and audiobooks. The Palace app, for use on mobile devices, doesn’t replace the Libby app, but it provides access to all of the content available through the Libby app, as well as additional content from the Palace Marketplace and the Palace Bookshelf. To use The Palace Project, download The Palace Project app available for both Apple and Android) to your phone or tablet. (Palace is currently not available on Kindle, PC, Linux, or other devices.)

To sign in:

1. Select “Find Your Library,” and search for Baxter Memorial Library
2. Select the settings icon in the lower-right hand corner of the screen
3. Enter your full library card number (2000XXXX)
4. Enter your password (this is the same password you use to access our catalog). If you’re unsure, try the default password “userpass.” Then, be sure to log into our catalog where you’ll be prompted to change it to your own password. Now when you log into The Palace Project, you’ll enter your own password.

Learning Express Library is a deep and broad tool that has something for everyone!

• Prepare for and take an occupation exam, like the CDL, law enforcement, teaching, and more.
• Work on skills for school, from elementary to college, or practice for the SAT, ACT, or GRE.
• Explore potential careers, based on interest, skills, and future growth.Get support for resumes, cover letters, and interviews, or search for jobs and internships.
• Prepare for the GED, or work on math and reading for adults.

To sign in:

Go to LearningExpress Library

1. If you are a new user, select “Register.”
2. Enter your name, your email address and a password (This will take you to “My Center,” your personal LearningExpress homepage).
3. Click “Home” in the upper right to browse LearningExpress classes and resources.

For future sign-ins, your email address will be your username.


Universal Class offers more than 500 online classes ranging in topics from writing skills, software programs (including Adobe and Microsoft programs), to science, html, and graphic design. There’s something for everyone! Though classes are not for college credit, they are led by a real instructor with whom you can communicate by e-mail. Courses allow you to proceed at your own pace, working on assignments anytime, day or night.

To sign in:

Go to Universal Class

1. Enter your library card number: 2000xxxx (replace the x’s with your own four-digit number; if you don’t know it, just email us).
2. Enter your name, your email address and a password you create.


Vermont Online Library (VOL) covers everything from newspaper articles to DIY car repair, and can help with most any topic. Available for free to all Vermonters, VOL has options for all ages from elementary school through adult. You can even use it to read current articles from the NY Times, Washington Post, the Economist, and more.

To sign in:

Go to Vermont Online Library

  1. Check the name of the library in the purple bar at the top of the page. If it doesn’t say Baxter Memorial Library ,click “Change Library” on the right side of the purple bar.
  2. Choose “Baxter Memorial Library” from the dropdown list and enter your library card number: 2000xxxx (replace the x’s with your own four-digit number; if you don’t know it, just email us).

Vermonters now have access to GetSetUp, the largest online community for older adults to learn, share and socialize. GetSetUp has over 500 online classes and events offered each week that will give you a safe, fun and welcoming way to interact with your peers and discover new passions and purposes. Take classes around the clock and from around the world on everything from technology, health and fitness, photography, travel, and cooking, as well as interest-based social groups led by our own community members. Classes are taught by older adults and kept small to ensure everyone can actively participate. You don’t need to have a library card to participate; GetSetUp is open to all Vermonters.

To set up your own account, just click on the GetSetUp logo above, and then on the orange “Sign Up” button at the top right of the page. Enter your email address and a password, and you’re ready to explore! Feel free to contact the library with any questions.


Senior Planet – This is an incredible resource for people over the age of 60. Senior Planet offers technology-related resources to older adults for free. If you have a technology problem, you can contact them for free tech help M-F, 9-5 at (920) 666-1959. They also offer free, live online events that aren’t strictly technology-related (though most are). Here are several examples of their online offerings: Getting Started on Instagram (or Facebook or Zoom or…), Smartphone Photography, Protecting Your Personal Information Online, Mobile Health Apps, Online Tools for Contacting Your Lawmakers, and even Chair Yoga and Fit Fusion Workout!


Internet Archive is a non-profit digital library offering free universal access to books, movies & music, as well as 418 billion archived web pages.


Project Gutenberg offers over 60,000 public domain ebooks for free use on any device. Because they are public domain, they are typically limited to items published before 1924, but that still includes a wide range of classics.


LibriVox offers public domain audiobooks recorded by volunteers for free use on any relevant device. Like Gutenberg, they tend to be items published before 1924.
