Dear Neighbor,
Did you know that students who don’t read proficiently by third grade are four times more likely to drop out of school?* Thanks to donations from generous Sharonites like you, Baxter Memorial Library has been able to expand its early literacy collection and programs, helping make sure every child in Sharon has access to the tools they need to grow, learn, and thrive.
We offer weekly storytimes, the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten challenge, and an amazing (and yes, a little wild!) Summer Reading Program. Plus, there’s a librarian (that’s me!) who greets every child with a big smile and a basket of stickers.
But Baxter Memorial isn’t just for kids. We have over 4,000 titles for adults, along with printing, scanning, and copying services, 24/7 Wi-Fi, and a calendar full of community programs — from Beekeeping 101 and Celtic music night to writing workshops and author talks.
I’m writing to ask for your support so we can continue all of this and more. While our library receives some funding from the town, over a third of our budget depends on donations from people like you.
And your donation does more than buy books — it helps your neighbors build new skills, explore new ideas, and feel more connected to the world around them.
In a time when fewer places are truly free and welcoming to all, libraries matter more than ever.
So why am I a librarian? Because I believe that everyone — no matter their background, income, or ability — deserves access to trustworthy information, learning opportunities, and stories that inspire.
Because a library is the heart of a community. It’s a place where people come together — to read, to connect, to create, to belong.
And because I’ve seen firsthand how small, everyday moments at the library can make a real difference — from helping someone apply for their first job to watching a child fall in love with books.
I’d love for you to stop by and see the impact of your support for yourself.
Your donation is tax-deductible and directly supports the programs and services that make Baxter Memorial a vital part of our town.
With gratitude,
Shana Ronayne Hickman
Director, Baxter Memorial Library
P.S. If you’re able to add just $10 to your donation, I’d be incredibly grateful — I’d love to refresh our adult nonfiction section this year!
Thank you for your generosity and kindness!
