1000 Books Before Kindergarten

The Journey of 1000 Books Starts at Baxter Memorial Library

Thanks to a Winnie Belle Learned Fund grant made possible by the Vermont Public Library Foundation, Baxter Memorial Library is excited to offer the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program!

The goal of 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is to read 1,000 books (yes, you can repeat books!) before your little one starts kindergarten. Does it sound hard? If you think about it, it’s not! If you read just 1 book a night, you will have read about 365 books in a year. That’s 730 books in two years and 1,095 books in three years. Just keep track of how many books you read, and you’ll see them adding up fast – and if you attend Storytime at the library, you can count those books, too!

For every 100 books you and your child read together, you’ll receive a sticker and the opportunity to pose for a photo. For every 250 books, your child will get to pick out a brand new book! When you reach 1000 books, you’ll receive a tote bag and a special reading medal!

To register your child, just stop by the library during open hours and pick up your log book.
